At The Boss Attorney, we understand the significance of the 53rd District Court in Livingston County, and we aim to provide valuable information about the court for our clients.

The 53rd District Court is not only responsible for handling criminal cases but also plays a crucial role in addressing civil matters. It effectively resolves disputes involving amounts up to $25,000 and skillfully handles smaller claims up to $3,000. The court tackles various issues, such as conflicts between landlords and tenants, evictions, garnishments, land contracts, mortgage foreclosures, and other related disputes.

When it comes to misdemeanors, the 53rd District Court manages a diverse range of criminal matters. Our experienced team of criminal defense attorneys is well-versed in handling cases involving disorderly conduct, domestic violence, retail fraud (shoplifting), assault with a dangerous weapon, drug crimes, embezzlement, uttering and publishing offenses, carrying a concealed weapon, driving with a suspended or revoked license, and leaving the scene of an accident (hit and run incidents). Additionally, the court diligently processes all traffic tickets, regardless of whether they are minor infractions or more serious misdemeanor offenses.

Criminal cases within the court's jurisdiction are prosecuted by either the City Attorney, the Livingston County Prosecutor's Office, or the Michigan Attorney General's Office. These cases encompass both felony and misdemeanor charges that allegedly occurred within the jurisdiction of the court. The court also handles alleged probation violations. Individuals facing criminal charges or probation violations have the option to retain legal counsel, seek court-appointed counsel if they are unable to afford an attorney, or represent themselves.

Drunk driving cases have been a significant focus within the 53rd District Court. The court has handled numerous OWI (Operating While Intoxicated) cases, which are quite common in this jurisdiction. Even first-time offenders with a low blood alcohol content (BAC) can expect drug and/or alcohol testing. A second drunk driving offense within seven years of a prior offense results in a one-year license revocation, unless the offender is accepted into a Sobriety Court program. Furthermore, individuals convicted of an OWI with a High BAC of .17 or greater are prohibited from operating a vehicle without a breath alcohol ignition interlock device (BAIID) installed. The complete license sanction for OWI with a High BAC entails a 45-day period of no driving, followed by a restricted license for 320 days with a BAIID. We strongly recommend consulting with a criminal defense lawyer specializing in drunk driving cases to explore potential options for reducing charges, avoiding incarceration, and safeguarding driving privileges.

Traffic cases also form a significant portion of the 53rd District Court's caseload. Our team at The Boss Attorney has extensive experience assisting individuals with traffic tickets within this court. We work closely with the judges, prosecutors, and police officers to effectively modify or reduce traffic charges, ensuring that points are not added to your driving record. Our proactive approach aims to help you avoid a rise in car insurance premiums.

In felony cases, the court follows a well-defined procedure. It all begins with an arraignment, during which the charges are officially presented. Following that, a preliminary examination is conducted where a judge thoroughly evaluates the evidence to determine whether there is sufficient probable cause to proceed with the case. If the judge determines that probable cause exists, the case progresses to the next stage and gets transferred to the Livingston County Circuit Court for trial, which is located in the same building as the Howell 53rd district court.

We understand the importance of the 53rd District Court in Livingston County, and our team at The Boss Attorney is dedicated to providing the best legal representation and guidance to our clients navigating the court system.

Randy Babi was absolutely phenomenal! One of the best attorneys out there. Doesn't tell you what you want to hear, but tells you the truth and keeps it real. On top of that, he gets the job done and gives you the best advice and will go full in on it. If your a review kind of person make sure you take this comment very seriously and give them a call immediately and don't waste any time.

When this guy says he's a BOSS Attorney he really means it, he got a case dismissed for me when another reputable attorney told me I was getting two points no matter what. Randy went in the prosecuting attorneys office like a boss and came out with a dismissal, Thanks for living up to your name. This man is a LIVING LEGEND!

- Andre B.

Mr. Babi just finished a case for my fiancé and we couldn't be more satisfied with the work he did! He fights for his clients, and puts in the work. Whenever my fiancé would be on the phone with him, I thought he was speaking to one of his friends. Very down to earth and gets the job done! I would highly recommend!

I am a family law attorney (and do not handles the same types of matters as Randy), but I know Randy well enough to make this recommendation. I endorse Attorney Randy Babi without hesitation. He knows the law, he cares for his clients, and is very trustworthy. God forbid I ever need his services, but he is one of the first people I would contact if I was in trouble.
